A Community of Disciples

St. Luke's Parish is located in Wantirna in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and forms part of the Knox Deanery within the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.

Under the pastoral care of the Salesians of Don Bosco, our community embodies the Salesian spirit of optimism, joy, family spirit, and loving accompaniment for young people and families.

“We, the Parish of St. Luke, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, are committed to continue building the Kingdom of God by being a Community of Disciples, living God's Word and reaching out to all people.”

46 Years of Faith, Community, and Worship

By the late 1960s, Wantirna was transforming from orchards and bushland into a vibrant suburb. As young Catholic families settled in the area, they initially traveled 3 to 4 kilometres to St Joseph's Boronia for Mass and Catholic schooling.

In 1978, a Sunday Mass centre was established in the state school at Regency Park. Families would arrive early, stack little school desks, set up an altar and banners, and tune their guitars for joyful worship. By 1980, through the vision of pioneering families and clergy, land was acquired on Stokes Road and our parish church and school were dedicated.
